The Richmond Marathon is on Saturday 14 November 2026, its 49th running. It starts at 7:00 at 1st Street and Broad Street, downtown, and the organiser bills it as America's Friendliest Marathon. The course passes street art, river views, historic buildings and parks, and ends with a downhill finish before the post-race party on Brown's Island.
The marathon is full, with 7,200 places. A waiting list costs $200, and a runner offered a place has 24 hours to take it. It is one of the races most used to qualify for Boston.

Collecting your number 2026 details
Collection is at the expo in the infield of Richmond Raceway, 600 E Laburnum Avenue, through Gate 4 or Gate 6. It is open on Thursday 12 November from 15:00 to 19:00 and on Friday 13 November from 11:00 to 20:00. The raceway gates close half an hour before the expo, at 18:30 on Thursday and 19:30 on Friday, so arrive before then.
Bring your registration QR code or photo ID. You can collect for another registered runner with their QR code or photo ID. A shuttle bus runs to the expo from the Omni Richmond Hotel, with the last drop-off half an hour before the expo closes.
Collection on race morning is a $45 extra that must be bought in advance, by 21:00 on Friday 13 November. It runs from 6:00 to 7:15, and you collect your shirt after the race.
Race morning 2026 details
Bag check opens at 6:00. The marathon starts at 7:00 sharp at 1st and Broad, the half at 7:15 at 7th and Broad and the 8K at 7:30 at 8th and Broad. Corrals go by predicted finish time, from 3:30 and under to 5:01 and over. The organiser notes the corrals and start time can still change.
The course 2026 details
The organiser describes a course with street art, river views, historic architecture and parks, and a downhill finish that the race is known for. Pickle juice and junk-food stops are part of the day. The marathon course closes at 14:00, seven hours after the start, and the half closes at 11:30.
Getting to Richmond 2026 details
The start, the finish and the post-race party are downtown. The expo is out at Richmond Raceway, north of the centre, so plan a drive, a taxi or the expo shuttle from the Omni Richmond Hotel.
Where to stay in Richmond
A room downtown keeps the start at Broad Street, the finish and Brown's Island on foot. The Omni Richmond Hotel also has the expo shuttle, which helps with the trip out to the raceway.
