The organiser has not said yet when 2027 entries open

The 2026 race was run on Sunday 25 October. The 2027 date has not been announced yet. The details below are the 2026 edition's. The 2026 rulebook calls it the 40th edition and gives the start as 9:40, from Villa Pisani in Stra. The race finishes at Riva Sette Martiri, on the waterfront of St Mark's Basin in Venice.

The clocks go back one hour in the night between Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, according to the organiser's 42K page. Set any alarm or transfer time by hand if a device does not change itself.

Collecting your number 2026 details

Collect your number in person at Exposport Venicemarathon Village in San Giuliano Park, in Mestre. The organiser gives Friday 23 October and Saturday 24 October, both 9:00 to 20:00. The rulebook says numbers cannot be sent ahead or collected on race day.

Bring an identity card or passport, and the confirmation letter on your phone. The organiser says the letter arrives by email before the race and should not be printed. If your registration is incomplete, you will not take part. The FIDAL membership rule for Italian competitive entrants also applies at this stage.

The organiser also runs a shuttle from a hotel stop in Mestre to the Village on Friday and Saturday, from 9:00 to 19:30.

Getting to Venice 2026 details

Your race morning starts at one of two points, Mestre railway station or Venezia Tronchetto in front of the ferry stop. Both are the start points for the free runner shuttles to Stra, so choose a base near whichever one suits you. I have not verified the airport or rail timings for 2026, so check those before you travel.

Where to stay 2026 details

Mestre and Venice both work for the shuttle. Mestre station is where the morning buses leave from 6:40, and Tronchetto from 6:50, so base yourself near the one that gives the shorter walk to your bed. The finish is on the Venice side, so runners who want to recover near the waterfront should book in Venice. Ask about breakfast before the shuttle leaves, and about luggage storage if you check out on Sunday.

Race morning 2026 details

The organiser strongly recommends its free runner-only shuttles to Stra. The 42K page lists departures from Mestre railway station from 6:40 to 7:20, and from Venezia Tronchetto from 6:50 to 7:20. The shuttle is free and reserved for participants.

Be in Stra by 8:30, as the rulebook asks. The rulebook gives corral access from 8:55 to 9:20. The 42K page gives the corral window as 9:10 to 9:25, with the start at about 9:40. The two documents differ, so check the race-week email before you leave. Latecomers start at the back of the group.

Kit bags are the organiser's own bags, issued with your bib, with a numbered sticker on the front. Hand yours to the staff at the truck by the deadline. Bags handed in late or not given to staff in the trucks are not found at the finish line. The rulebook says the deadline will be emailed closer to the day and printed on the bib envelope.

The course 2026 details

The start is at Villa Pisani, which opens its park before the start. The first part runs along the Riviera del Brenta, past 18th-century villas, then through Marghera and Mestre, past the M9 museum. Around 2 km of the route runs inside San Giuliano Park, where the 10K also starts.

The route crosses the Ponte della Libertà, a flat, straight bridge of almost 4 km, then enters the port area and runs along the Giudecca Canal to Punta della Dogana. A pontoon bridge over the Grand Canal is built for the race, 170 metres long, and taken down the night after.

The rulebook calls the course basically flat and fast, with three or four short slopes of about 100 m between 25 and 35 km. The last 3 km cross 14 small bridges over the canals, with wooden ramps over the steps. Most of that final stretch is large stone slabs, and cobbles appear only in the last 100 m.

Passing through Piazza San Marco is conditional. The rulebook says "high tide permitting", and I found no 2026 notice about the route. Do not count on that passage until the organiser confirms it.

The time limit to finish is 6 hours. After it, you are treated as withdrawn and no service is given along the track, including safety cover. The rulebook does not say whether the 6-hour limit runs from the gun or from your chip time, and the 42K page says only that you are timed on net time. Plan to finish within 6 hours of your own start, and keep your pace in mind from the first kilometre.

Weather in Venice in October

Look at the forecast for race week, and again on the morning before you leave. Look at the hours you will spend outside, including the wait in Stra and the trip back. These numbers are model estimates for the start point and not readings from a weather station.

The race date moves within late October from year to year. The last five editions were on 24 October 2021, 23 October 2022, 22 October 2023, 27 October 2024 and 26 October 2025. These are the last five completed race days at Stra, at 9:00 and 13:00, the hour of the 9:40 start.

The 2024 start was the warmest at 16.8 °C, and the 2021 start had the strongest wind at 12.8 km/h.

Afterwards 2026 details

The finish is at Riva Sette Martiri, and the runner finish area is restricted. Agree a meeting point outside it instead of asking a companion to wait beside the line.

Motorboats run from Venezia Giardini to Venezia Tronchetto from 12:15, and the last boat leaves at 16:00. A free bus takes you from Tronchetto to Mestre railway station or to Stra, timed with the boats. Ordinary-line boats are not covered, and you pay for those. Companions can ride the motorboat only, for €3 from the InfoPoint at the Village or €5 when boarding, subject to availability. Runners who withdraw are taken by sweep bus to the first-aid stations at km 31, then on to Tronchetto.
