TCS Amsterdam Marathon 2027
Sunday, 31 October 2027 · Amsterdam, Netherlands
The stadium that held the 1928 Olympic marathon is where the Amsterdam Marathon starts and finishes. In between you follow part of that Olympic course beside the Amstel, loop through the Vondelpark and pass under the Rijksmuseum. The course is billed as flat, fast and historical, and the race holds a World Athletics Platinum Label.
The marathon is on Sunday 31 October 2027, the second day of the organiser's race weekend. The 2027 programme isn't out, so the times, the expo hours and the start waves below are the 2026 ones, and each section says so.
Registration for 2026 opened on 20 December 2025 and closes on 5 October 2026, or earlier if it sells out. There was no waiting list. If you missed out, resale of other people's bibs runs through the registration platform, and more turn up closer to the race. The 2027 registration date isn't published yet.

Getting to Amsterdam 2026 details
From Schiphol, trains run eight times an hour to Amsterdam Centraal and take 17 minutes, according to the city's tourist board. Intercity Direct trains have also run between Schiphol and Amsterdam Zuid since 2025, and Zuid is the station you want on race day. The same Dutch Railways service links Rotterdam Central to Amsterdam South in 25 minutes.
On the Sunday, take the metro to Station Zuid, from where the way to the Olympic Stadium is signposted. Large parts of the city are shut to traffic and the tram and bus services are limited, so don't count on a tram across the centre. The 2026 notice closes Amstelveenseweg metro station from 13:00 to 18:00 on race day, so go home through Station Zuid as well.
Parking near the stadium is scarce. Parking at the RAI, at the ArenA and at Station Noord comes with a metro ride, and there's a bike shed near the Na-Druk-Geluk bridge. The stadium's own car park isn't open to runners.
Where to stay in Amsterdam
The Olympic Stadium is a walk from Station Zuid, and the metro is the organiser's recommendation, so a bed on a metro line is worth more than one near the canals. Zuid is also where the organiser sends you for the walk to the expo.
The centre is fine too, but the trams are limited that morning, so work out the metro ride the evening before.
Collecting your number 2026 details
Everyone collects at the Marathon Expo in RAI Amsterdam, including runners with a foreign address. You show a personal QR code, sent by email in early October and also in the official app. The same code collects the shirt and any extras you ordered.
Opening hours in 2026 are Thursday 13:00 to 20:00, Friday 10:00 to 20:00 and Saturday 9:00 to 19:00, and the expo is closed on Sunday with no bibs given out. If you can't go, someone else can collect with a copy of your race bib email.
The expo has no cash machine, though most stands take cards. On Sunday there's a merchandise stand beside the stadium, open from 8:00, with last-minute gels.
Race morning 2026 details
There are two start areas, each for 16,000 runners. Area A is on the field inside the stadium and area B is on the Stadionweg, outside it. The colour of your bib sets your wave. Here are the 2026 waves.
| Expected finish | Wave | Start |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 2:35, and invited athletes | 1, white | 9:00 |
| 2:35 to 3:00 | 2, yellow | 9:03 |
| 3:00 to 3:30 | 3, pink | 9:07 |
| 3:30 to 4:00 | 4, orange | 9:17 |
| 4:00 to 4:30 | 5, green | 9:31 |
| 4:30 to 6:00 | 6, blue | 9:43 |
In area A the marathon gate opens at 7:45. Waves 1 and 2 must be on the field by 8:50. Waves 3 and 4 can also use the stairs on the outside of the stadium. Area B opens at 8:00. Clothing tents are free and open until 17:00, though the organiser takes no responsibility for losses. Area A has them around the stadium from 7:30, and area B has them at the Stadionplein from 7:45.
The time limit is 6 hours. The 2026 checkpoints are 10:31 at 5 km, 11:13 at 10 km, 11:55 at 15 km, 12:36 at 20 km and 13:18 at 25 km. Anyone the sweeper vehicle reaches is asked to get in, the roads reopen behind it, and the finish in the stadium closes at 17:00. There are toilets outside the stadium and at every drinks station.
The course 2026 details
The 2026 course page shows a map and an elevation graph as images, with no climb figure, and describes the route as flat and fast. The highlights it lists are the stretch beside the Amstel, the Heineken Experience, the passage under the Rijksmuseum and the loop of the Vondelpark.
Drinks are at 5, 8, 11, 16, 18, 20, 25, 27, 30, 31, 33, 35, 38 and 40 km. The stations carry water, sponges, bananas, a sports drink and gels, in an order set out on the course page. You can't have your own bottles delivered to them.
You finish inside the Olympic Stadium in front of the grandstand. Keep walking after the line, because the banana and water are outside the stadium, and the medal, heat sheet and engraving stand are in Sporthallen Zuid.
Weather in Amsterdam in October
Mid-October mornings are cold and, in some years, windy. These are the last five race days at the Olympic Stadium, at 9:00 and at 13:00. The 2027 date is 11 days later than the latest of them.
| Race day | 9:00 | 13:00 | Wind at 9:00 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 17 October 2021 | 9.4 °C | 12.3 °C | 15 km/h |
| 16 October 2022 | 13.0 °C | 16.8 °C | 23 km/h |
| 15 October 2023 | 7.7 °C | 9.9 °C | 14 km/h |
| 20 October 2024 | 13.7 °C | 15.8 °C | 16 km/h |
| 19 October 2025 | 6.9 °C | 10.8 °C | 11 km/h |
The 23 km/h wind in 2022 is the one a pacing group would have noticed.
Afterwards 2026 details
In 2026 the Saturday has a 7.5K, a children's run and a pasta party in the evening. The Sunday has the half marathon at 13:20, so the stadium stays busy through the afternoon.
