Berlin Marathon 2027
Sunday, 26 September 2027 · Berlin, Germany
Berlin's claim is world records. The organiser counts 13 set on this course, more than at any other marathon, and calls it the flattest of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. Over 50,000 runners finish, and the last thing they do is pass through the Brandenburg Gate.
You start on Straße des 17. Juni, between the Brandenburg Gate and the Kleiner Stern. Millions of spectators and 80 live bands line the course.
Entry is by lottery, and the 2027 draw is open now. The race is on Sunday 26 September 2027.

Getting to Berlin
Most runners arrive at BER. The FEX airport express takes 23 minutes to the main station, stopping at Südkreuz and Potsdamer Platz, and runs every 15 minutes, according to the tourist board. Berlin Hauptbahnhof is one of the stations the organiser lists for the start.
On race day the organiser says to use public transport. Your number is the ticket. It covers zones A, B and C from 23 to 26 September, and you have to carry it. The nearest stops to the start and finish are Unter den Linden, Bundestag, Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz, plus Hauptbahnhof for the S-Bahn and regional trains.
Where to stay in Berlin
The start and finish are in the same place, so there's no commute home with a medal and a cramp. Sleeping near Hauptbahnhof or Potsdamer Platz puts you a short ride or a walk from the Brandenburg Gate. Walking times aren't published.
Choose by when your block goes in, not by the start time. Block A to D are let in at 7:00. A runner in block K isn't admitted until 8:30.
Collecting your number
You pick up your number and race pack at the Marathon Expo, and your wristband for the start area comes from the same place. Without the wristband you can't get in on the morning.
The 2027 hours and address aren't published yet. The race information arrives by email in September, together with the four-day ticket details.
Race morning
You're let into the start area in groups. Blocks A to D go in at 7:00, E and F at 7:30, G, H and J at 8:00, and K at 8:30. There are two entrances. Most people use Platz der Republik, opposite the Reichstag. A second at Bremer Weg is only for runners with a purple number, a poncho symbol and a block other than K.
Your block is printed on your number. It's set by the personal best or finish time you gave, and you can change the time online until 26 August 2027. Proof is needed for anything under 3:15. If you want a slower block, line up further back.
Don't hand in a bag by default. You can only use the clothing drop-off if you picked it at registration, and a poncho symbol on your number means you didn't. Keep a hoodie for the pre-start zone, because the organiser collects discarded warm clothes for the Berlin City Mission. There are changing rooms and hot showers at the finish. Bring your own soap, because once you leave the area you can't come back in.
The course 2026 details
The 2027 route map isn't out yet, and the organiser's page still shows 2026. In outline the route leaves Straße des 17. Juni, runs through the city and returns to the Brandenburg Gate.
Fifteen stations have drinks, and every one has a refill point for your own bottle. Water is at 5, 12, 17.5, 22.5, 27.5, 32.5, 34.5, 38 and 40 km. Tea, fruit and the sponsor's drink mix are at 9, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 36 km, and the gel is at 27.5 km. You can leave your own drink at 5, 9, 15, 20, 25, 30, 36 or 40 km if you hand it in between 7:00 and 7:45, marked with your name and number.
Weather in Berlin in September
The date has moved around over the years, from 21 to 29 September, and the weather has moved with it. These are the last five race days at the Brandenburg Gate, at 9:00 and at 13:00.
| Race day | 9:00 | 13:00 | Wind at 9:00 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 September 2022 | 11.7 °C | 17.5 °C | 6 km/h |
| 24 September 2023 | 13.1 °C | 18.6 °C | 9 km/h |
| 29 September 2024 | 8.4 °C | 13.7 °C | 12 km/h |
| 21 September 2025 | 19.9 °C | 24.8 °C | 12 km/h |
| 27 September 2026 | 13.5 °C | 20.8 °C | 11 km/h |
Waves leave from 8:45 to 10:27, so the later ones run in a warmer morning than the 9:00 column shows. In 2025 it was nearly 20 °C before the start.
Afterwards
Everything is where you started, so the train home is the same train. Your ticket runs until the 26th. The organiser's refreshments are behind the finish line.
