Paris Marathon 2027

Sunday, 4 April 2027 · Paris, France

The Paris Marathon starts on the Champs-Élysées and finishes on the Avenue Foch, and the 42 km in between run beside the Seine, over long stretches of cobbles and under balconies full of people cheering. The 2026 route went past the Opéra, Notre-Dame and the Eiffel Tower on the way.

2027 is the 50th edition, on Sunday 4 April. The organisers are keeping the route to themselves until a few weeks before race day, with something new on it, so the times and places below are the 2026 ones, and each section says so.

How you get a place

There's a lottery, and the 2027 one has closed. Results are emailed in waves starting on 1 October 2026, with the next steps for anyone picked. The lottery page shows 160,000 registered. Charity entries, corporate entries and tour operators are other routes in, each with its own conditions.

The paperwork foreign runners miss 2026 details

French road races ask for proof of fitness, and the 2026 regulations were firm about it. You needed a French athletics licence or one from a short list of French federations, or a health-course number from the national athletics federation's site, dated less than three months before the race. If the course suggests seeing a doctor, you need a certificate less than a year old, in French, English, Spanish, German, Italian or Portuguese, saying you can run in competition.

A licence from a foreign federation doesn't replace this, even a World Athletics one. You upload the document to your registration dashboard, and you can still show it at the expo. The 2027 rules aren't out yet, so check them once they are.

Getting to Paris 2026 details

If you fly in to Charles de Gaulle, the airport operator says the RER B reaches Gare du Nord in about 25 minutes and Châtelet-Les Halles in about 28. Châtelet-Les Halles also has the RER A, which runs to Charles de Gaulle-Étoile, the station at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe.

The 2026 start was served by Charles de Gaulle-Étoile (metro lines 1, 2 and 6, and RER A), Porte Dauphine (line 2) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (lines 1 and 9). Runners were told to arrive early and bring the bare minimum, with no ponchos or plastic bags in the start area, and old clothes were collected and recycled. There's a secure bike park at the corner of Avenue Foch and Avenue de la Grande Armée, with limited places that you book in advance.

Where to stay in Paris 2026 details

The start is on the Champs-Élysées and the finish on the Avenue Foch, and in 2026 the metro, the bike park and a block of toilets were all at the Place de l'Étoile. Sleeping near there means a walk on race morning, not a ride.

The expo is at Porte de Versailles on the other side of the city, though. Metro line 12 and trams T2 and T3a stop there, so a bed on one of them helps on Thursday or Friday.

Collecting your number 2026 details

You collect at Run Experience, Hall 1 of the Parc des Expositions at Porte de Versailles. In 2026 it ran from Thursday 9 April to Saturday 11 April, from 15:00 to 20:00 on Thursday, 10:00 to 20:00 on Friday and 9:00 to 18:00 on Saturday. Entry is free. The 2027 dates aren't published.

Bring your QR code from the confirmation email, a photo ID and proof that your health document is registered on your dashboard. Bibs aren't posted and aren't given out on race day.

The expo has more than 150 exhibitors. It's about 40 minutes from Roissy by RER or metro, and about 15 from Orly.

Race morning 2026 details

In 2026 luggage lockers were free at the finish on the Avenue Foch, open from 7:00. The bag size limit was 45 cm high, 36 cm wide and 20 cm deep, and anything bigger could be refused. You show your bib to get it back.

Your wave and its time are on your registration confirmation, and stewards at the start enforce them. You can change wave on your dashboard until about two months before the race. To move into the elite, preferential or red waves, you first register in the yellow wave and send proof of a time from the last four years.

Toilets were in the finish area, in the Place de l'Étoile on the way to the start, and in the start pens. The ones in the pens are urinals only.

The 2026 time limit was 6 hours from the last participant crossing the start line. Runners overtaken by the end-of-race vehicles are withdrawn and get no medal.

The course 2026 details

The 2027 route isn't published. In general the race leaves the foot of the Arc de Triomphe towards the Place de la Concorde, sweeps along the Rue de Rivoli past the Opéra Garnier to the Place de la Bastille, goes out to the Bois de Vincennes and comes home with Notre-Dame and the Eiffel Tower in view. The 2026 route also passed the Palais Garnier and the Arc de Triomphe.

Drinking has changed. In 2026 no bottles or cups were handed out and you had to bring your own container, because the city of Paris limits single-use plastic at big events. There were 13 stations plus the finish, most of them with food. They were at 4.8, 8.7, 13.3, 16.8, 21.3, 24.2, 30.6, 35.1 and 38.8 km, with water only at 22.5, 29, 32.6 and 37 km, and volunteers or filling points to fill your flask. With a new route, those distances will change.

Weather in Paris in April

Early April in Paris can be freezing or mild. These are the last five race days at the Arc de Triomphe, at 8:00 and at 13:00. The later waves start well after 8:00, so they run in a warmer morning than the first column shows.

In 2022 it was below freezing at the start, and two years later it was nearly 14 °C.
