The Helsinki City Marathon is the largest and oldest marathon in Finland. The organiser says it first ran in 1981, and that the route has sea views and finishes in the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.

The 2027 race is on Saturday 8 May, the 47th edition. It starts on Mäntymäentie, by the statue of Paavo Nurmi. The marathon is separate from the Helsinki Marathon, which runs in August.

Some of the organiser's pages still carry 2026 material. The guide marks where the organiser says a detail is to be updated for 2027.

Collecting your number 2027 details

Collect at the Race Office in the Olympic Stadium, Paavo Nurmen tie 1, on the -2 floor. The entrance is on the west side of the stadium, about 50 m from the Olympic tower. Show the QR code the organiser sends you by email a week before and by text a few days before. A friend can collect your number with your QR code.

The organiser's pages disagree on the hours, so check your final instructions.

Saturday 8 May7:30 to 8:40Race Office open from 7:30. Collect no later than 1 hour before your start

The marathon page gives 8:40 as the last time on Saturday. The general page says an hour before the start, which is 8:30 for the first start. Collect on Friday if you can, and before 17:30.

The organiser's Friday rush hours are 15:30 to 18:30. Saturday rush hours are 8:00 to 9:00 and 11:30 to 13:30.

Race morning 2027 details

The first start is at 9:30, for runners with a target time under 4 hours. The second start is at 9:40, for target times over 4 hours. Be at the southern Olympic Stadium square by 9:20. The start is on Mäntymäentie next to the Paavo Nurmi statue. The general page says to be at the start at least 15 minutes before your wave.

Results use your net time, from crossing the start line to the finish line, so you do not need to rush to the line. Do not cover your number with your hands when you cross the start or the finish.

Bag drop is at the northern market square of the Olympic Stadium, from 8:30 to 16:30. Use your own closable bag and attach the tag from your number, with the tie from the Race Office. You collect it by showing your number. The organiser does not store valuables and is not responsible for lost items.

Your own drinks can go in the marked boxes in the Race Office entrance hall between 7:30 and 8:40. The dressing rooms at the Swimming Stadium open at 7:30. The Olympic Stadium has toilets, and there are temporary toilets at the start and along the route.

The time limit is 6 hours, and finishers inside it get a medal.

The course 2027 details

The organiser says the route starts on Mannerheimintie and mixes seaside, park and downtown. The page mentions a second round of the course, and the finish is inside the Olympic Stadium. The marathon page's route heading says 2025, and its refreshment station map is the 2026 one. The 2027 route map and the 2027 station places are not published yet. The organiser has not published this yet. We'll add it here when they do.

The page gives 11 refreshment stations with sports drink and water, and some with salty pickled cucumbers and bananas. Two Red Bull stations serve it diluted 50:50 with water. One gel station is on the second round, and the finish has a large refreshment area. No climb figure is given.

Pacers run at 3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 4:45, 5:00, 5:15 and 5:30. The organiser says how they split between the two starts is to be updated for 2027.

Entering 2027 details

The marathon entry is 75 euros until 31 October 2026, and the next price is 82 euros. The organiser's page says the event shirt was included in the fee until 15 June 2026, and costs extra after that. Check what your entry includes.

You must be 18 or older in the year of the race. Your number is personal and cannot be given to someone else without re-registration.

Getting to Helsinki 2027 details

From Helsinki airport, the airport trains I and P stop at the airport station, Helsinki Central, Tikkurila and Pasila, according to VR. You need an HSL ABC ticket between the airport and the city centre. HSL puts the ride to the city centre at about 30 minutes.

The Olympic Stadium, where the Race Office, the bag drop and the finish are, is at Paavo Nurmen tie 1. The organiser says to use HSL public transport. It names the Opera House (Ooppera) as the closest tram stop and Töölö Sports Hall (Töölön kisahalli) as the closest bus stop. It says to look up your trip in HSL's trip planner. There is no reserved parking for runners at the stadium, and the organiser points to city bike stations and bike racks nearby.

The organiser says the event affects traffic in Helsinki, but its traffic maps are in Finnish and for the 2026 event. The organiser has not published the 2027 tram and bus diversions. We'll add them here when they do.

Where to stay in Helsinki

The Race Office, bag drop and finish are all at the Olympic Stadium, and the start is on Mäntymäentie, next to it. A room within walking distance of the stadium keeps race morning simple. The organiser's 2026 hotel offer has not been updated for 2027.
