Copenhagen Marathon 2027

Sunday, 9 May 2027 · Copenhagen, Denmark

The Copenhagen Marathon is a flat city race. It starts on Østre Allé beside Fælledparken, crosses the harbour bridges to Christianshavn and Amager, runs through Nørrebro, Frederiksberg and Vesterbro, and comes back past Nyhavn and the Marble Church to finish where it began. There are 12 drinks stations along the way.

The 2027 race is on Sunday 9 May at 9:30. It is the first year the entry was a lottery, because the 2026 race sold out in under 24 hours.

80,937 people applied for 35,000 bibs, and results go out by email. Whoever missed out can still try the official charity partners and tour operators, which the organiser says it will list on its site.

Getting to Copenhagen

Copenhagen Airport is 8 km from the centre, and both the metro and the train leave from Terminal 3. The tourist board puts the trip at about 15 minutes either way. The metro runs every 4 to 6 minutes in the day and evening, and a single ticket to the city costs DKK 30. The metro goes on to Kongens Nytorv and Nørreport, and the train to Central Station.

For the start, ride the metro into town and change to the Cityringen at Kongens Nytorv. The organiser recommends the metro, a bike or a walk on race day, and nothing larger, so a hire car is no use to you on Sunday morning.

Where to stay in Copenhagen

The start and finish are the same place, so the question is how far you want to walk at 7:30. Measured from the Parken stadium address on Øster Allé, the metro stations the organiser names are close.

AreaTo the start
Østerbro, around Trianglen8 minutes on foot to Trianglen, 0.6 km
Near Poul Henningsens Plads15 minutes on foot, 1.15 km
Nørrebro35 minutes on foot from Nørrebro station, 2.6 km, so take the metro
Nørreport and the old centre38 minutes on foot, 2.85 km, so take the metro
Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn42 minutes on foot, 3.1 km, so take the metro
Central Station58 minutes on foot, 4.3 km, so take the metro

Østerbro is the neighbourhood the course starts in, so a bed there is a walk to the start and back after the finish. Anything in the centre is a metro ride, and Nyhavn is on the course at about 33 km.

Collecting your number 2026 details

The expo was at Forum København, Julius Thomsens Plads 1 in Frederiksberg in 2026, and the organiser said the new, larger venue was a response to the crowd. The metro goes to the door on lines M1 and M2, getting off at Forum. Opening hours in 2026 were 14:00 to 19:00 on Wednesday, 12:00 to 19:00 on Thursday, and 10:00 to 19:00 on Friday and Saturday. The 2027 hours are not out yet.

Bibs are printed on the spot, and you cannot collect one on race day. Bring the start card the organiser emails no later than a week before the race. It can be on your phone. Someone else can collect your pack with your start card.

Race morning 2026 details

In 2026 the start area, which the organiser calls the Runners Area, opened at 7:30 for a 9:30 start, and the organiser asked everyone to be there at least an hour early. Only registered runners are allowed in. The area has bag storage, toilets and water, and the start is split into waves, with pace teams for a range of finish times. The wave times are on the organiser's start groups page.

Bags that are not collected go to Sparta Atletik og Løb at Parken, Øster Allé 56, and can be collected from noon on the following Monday. Special event tickets for the day cost DKK 30 to 60 and give 12 hours of public transport.

The course 2026 details

The 2026 route is the best guide to 2027's, which the organiser has not yet published. It runs from the start to Christianshavn and Amager, crossing Knippelsbro and Langebro at about 10 km, and reaches Queen Louise's Bridge at about 14 km, where the organiser describes a tunnel of noise and music before Nørrebro. It reaches Frederiksberg Allé at about 24 km, a gentle downhill under Danish flags.

Vesterbro comes from about 28 to 31 km, with Istedgade and the Kaktus Towers, and the city centre at about 33 km, past Kongens Nytorv, the Royal Theatre, Nyhavn, Amalienborg Palace and the Marble Church. Nyboder, the yellow houses from 1631, comes at about 36 km, and the finish is back on Østre Allé.

There are 12 refreshment stations, the first at 3.8 km and the last at 38.3 km. All of them have water and HIGH5 energy drink, and some add fruit or gels. Medics stand at the start, the finish and every station.

Weather in Copenhagen in May

May in Copenhagen is cool at the start and mild by lunch. These are the last five race days at the centre, at 9:30 (the average of the 9:00 and 10:00 readings) and at 13:00.

Race day9:3013:00Wind at 9:30

11 May 20259.2 °C10.8 °C12 km/h
10 May 202610.3 °C13.1 °C9 km/h

The wind varied most. It was 19 km/h at the start in 2022 and 9 km/h in 2026, and the bridges at about 10 km are open to it.

Afterwards 2026 details

The Runners Area is the recovery zone, with food, drink and somewhere to charge a phone, and in 2026 the last runners crossed the line at about 16:00. Your bag is in the same area. The metro back to the airport leaves from Kongens Nytorv and Nørreport.
