EDP Lisbon Marathon 2027

October 2027, date to be announced · Lisbon, Portugal

The Lisbon Marathon runs from the Atlantic coast to the River Tagus. It starts in Carcavelos, about 20 km west of the centre, follows the sea and then the river, and finishes on Praça do Comércio beside the water. The 2026 edition had 12 aid stations, 6 music stages, 15 toilet areas and four cooling showers, at 21, 32, 38 and 40 km.

The organiser has not announced the 2027 date. The next race is Saturday 10 October 2026, which is the date the European Marathon Classics calendar still shows. The marathon was on a Saturday in 2025 and 2026, with the half marathon and 8K on the Sunday, and it was on a Sunday from 2022 to 2024. Everything below is the 2026 edition's information until the 2027 pages go up.

Entry was tiered by order of registration in 2026, from €70 to €130 plus a €4 fee for the marathon.

Getting to Lisbon

The airport is on the Red Line of the metro. The line runs to Saldanha in about 20 minutes and on to Oriente, the station for Parque das Nações, where the expo is. The metro runs every day from 6:30 to 1:00. The first trains to the start leave Cais do Sodré at 5:30, so the metro is not an option on race morning and the train in the next section is the way to the start.

Where to stay in Lisbon

The way to the start is a train from Cais do Sodré, so the rule is to sleep within a short walk or one metro ride of it. The finish is on the waterfront at Praça do Comércio.

The first two rows keep you within a walk of both the start train and the finish. Parque das Nações is next to the expo and 8.3 km from the finish.

Collecting your number 2026 details

In 2026 numbers and kits were handed out at Pavilion 3 of the FIL, Rua do Bojador, in Parque das Nações. The hours were Thursday 8 and Friday 9 October, 10:00 to 20:00, and nothing is handed out on race day. The agenda also lists Saturday from 10:00 to 20:00, but the guide tells marathon runners to come on Thursday or Friday. The 2027 days depend on the date.

Bring the registration document, the PDF from the confirmation email, which works on a phone. Someone else can collect for you with your document. You receive a number, an official T-shirt, an official bag and the safety pins, and there are six T-shirt sizes. Your wave and recommended train are printed on the front of the number, and the train timetable on the back.

Race morning 2026 details

The start line is on Estrada N6-7 in Carcavelos, about 1 km from Carcavelos station and about 20 km from the centre. The train from Cais do Sodré takes about 30 minutes and trains are free with your number. The organiser asked everyone to take the train printed on their number, because trains have limited capacity.

A train after 7:10 from Cais do Sodré does not reach the start in time, and the organiser planned extra buses from Cais do Sodré in 2026. From Cascais the first trains left at 5:30 and took about 15 minutes.

The start area had several toilet blocks, an information point, the bag trucks and six starting waves. The waves started at 8:00, 8:08, 8:15, 8:21, 8:27 and 8:35. Pacers ran for 3:00 to 5:00 at 15-minute steps.

This is one morning for the fourth wave (8:21 in 2026), staying in Baixa.

The course 2026 details

The course runs along the sea and then the river, with the Vasco da Gama aquarium at 32 km, Algés station at 33, the Coches museum at 36 and the MAAT at 36.5, all marked by the organiser as places where friends can watch. Earlier it passes Casino Estoril at 8 and 16 km, Boca do Inferno at 12, and Torre beach on the Avenida Marginal at 24.

The 2026 course had 12 aid stations with water, gels and isotonic drink, listed at points from 5 to 42 km, and four cooling showers, at 21, 32, 38 and 40 km. A race-listing site puts the climb at 160 m and calls the route low in altitude. The organiser's guide links an elevation chart and gives no figure.

Weather in Lisbon in October

These are the last five race days at Carcavelos, at 8:00 (the 2025 and 2026 gun time) and at 13:00. The 2021 race was the postponed 2020 edition. The 2022 to 2024 races fell on Sundays and 2025's on a Saturday.

Afterwards

At the finish on Praça do Comércio you get a medal, water, Powerade, a banana from Madeira, an ice cream and a protein milk. There is a medal engraving tent, massage and an information point. The gear check trucks are in the finish area. Provisional results go on the race website that evening.
